From 8 for 3 to a Historic Century: How Georgia Voll Still Sealed Australia’s Series Triumph

Georgia Voll...

At Allan Border Field in Brisbane, two extraordinary centuries shaped a contest... yet only one could determine its final destination. Bangladesh Women arrived at the second One Day International hoping to challenge Australia Women. Instead, their innings began in near silence. Runs from the bat did not arrive until the fourth over, and by the eighth, the scoreboard read eight for three. Megan Schutt had removed Fargana Hoque, Kim Garth had trapped Sarmin Sultana leg before wicket, and Schutt had returned to bowl Sharmin Akhter. The innings appeared to be collapsing before it had truly begun. Then Sobhana Mostary walked into the defining chapter of her international career, with captain Nigar Sultana alongside her. Together, they resisted the pressure, rebuilt the innings, and slowly transformed a crisis into a landmark. Mostary reached fifty from sixty-six deliveries, then completed her maiden international hundred from one hundred and twenty-three balls. No Bangladeshi woman had previously scored a century against Australia. Nigar offered the stability this recovery demanded, reaching her half-century from ninety-seven balls and eventually finishing unbeaten on seventy-four. Their fourth-wicket stand of one hundred and ninety-five became Bangladesh's highest partnership for any wicket against Australia in women's One Day Internationals. It was a remarkable answer to an almost impossible opening. But in the forty-eighth over, Schutt bowled Mostary with a full toss for one hundred and eighteen. Bangladesh lost three wickets for eleven runs in the closing passage and finished on two hundred and twenty for six. Schutt's figures of four wickets for thirty-six runs had helped contain the damage. Australia needed two hundred and twenty-one to win. What followed was not a cautious pursuit. It was a breathtaking demonstration of batting authority. Georgia Voll attacked Ritu Moni for four boundaries in the tenth over and raced to fifty in just thirty-four balls. Phoebe Litchfield matched her intent, bringing up her half-century from forty-one deliveries. By the thirteenth over, the opening pair had already passed a hundred together. Their partnership grew to one hundred and sixty-two before Shorna Akter dismissed Litchfield for seventy from fifty-one balls. Yet that wicket barely interrupted the rhythm. Voll continued, and Ellyse Perry joined her in an unbeaten sixty-run stand. Australia reached two hundred and twenty-two for one in twenty-eight overs and one ball, sealing victory by nine wickets. Voll remained unbeaten on one hundred and thirty-one from ninety-seven deliveries, an innings featuring nineteen fours. The result gave Australia an unassailable two-nil lead in the three-match series. And still, this match belongs to more than the winning side. Mostary delivered a historic statement of resilience. Nigar gave that resistance its foundation. Schutt shaped both ends of Bangladesh's innings. Litchfield accelerated the chase, and Voll turned a competitive target into a procession. Two centuries. Two very different journeys. One decisive series result. For cricket storytelling that respects every turning point, stay with Guru News Network, powered by The Guru Gyan.
