Ramesh Powar Joins India Men's Selection Committee as Pragyan Ojha Takes Charge

Guru News Network, powered by The Guru Gyan,

Indian cricket has entered a new chapter in the leadership of its men's national selection committee. Ramesh Powar has been formally appointed as a member, while Pragyan Ojha has been named Chairperson. At first glance, this may appear to be a routine administrative announcement. Yet selection committees occupy a crucial position in the sport. Their decisions influence how players are assessed, how squads are assembled, and how a national team prepares for the challenges ahead. That is why a change of leadership deserves careful attention, even before the committee announces its first major selection. According to the information provided, the selection process was supervised by the Cricket Advisory Committee, or C A C, including Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape. The panel met at the B C C I headquarters in Mumbai to screen candidates. Following that process, Powar was the unanimous choice. The appointment therefore comes with a clearly described selection process, rather than an unexplained change of personnel. Under the new arrangement, Ojha will lead a five-member committee. Alongside Ojha and Powar, the other members are Shiv Sundar Das, R P Singh, and Ajay Ratra. Together, these five names form the confirmed committee structure described in the source material. The announcement also marks a moment to reflect on Ajit Agarkar's tenure as the outgoing chairman. In its statement, the B C C I acknowledged his commitment, conviction, and contribution. The board associated his tenure with three International Cricket Council titles, two Asia Cup victories, and two Asian Games gold medals. Such achievements form an important part of the wider period in which he served, while naturally reflecting the work of players and support staff across Indian cricket. There is, however, a distinction between what this announcement confirms and what observers may be tempted to predict. The information does not identify an upcoming squad, name players likely to gain selection, or announce a revised selection policy. There is no sound basis for presenting any of those possibilities as settled facts. The confirmed development is leadership change, new committee membership, and the process through which Powar was chosen. Its longer-term significance will become clearer only as the committee begins making decisions. For readers following India cricket news, the central takeaway is straightforward. Pragyan Ojha now heads the men's selection committee. Ramesh Powar joins it after unanimous selection. Shiv Sundar Das, R P Singh, and Ajay Ratra complete the panel.
